Overview

The ELM Summer Workshop

June 10-13, 2024
8:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. Daily

The Exploring Lasallian Mission (ELM) Summer Workshop is a relaxed and informal professional development experience that builds upon what participants already know and appreciate about the Lasallian mission. Through this program, employees of Â鶹ԭ´´ and other Lasallian ministries can better inform their own teaching and work – all in an effort to enhance the student experience at their respective institutions in the spirit of the Lasallian mission value of Association.

ELM was specifically designed for those who are unable to participate in the lengthier and more formal national and international formation programs but are still curious and interested in learning more about core elements of the Lasallian charism. This four-day experience is structured around four major themes:

  • The Life and Times of Saint John Baptist de La Salle
  • Classroom Pedagogy and the Christian Brothers
  • Social Justice and Lasallian Spirituality
  • The Lasallian Educator and the Lasallian Movement

A team of presenters bring the Lasallian mission and traditions to life through discussions, prayer, small group activities, historical and contemporary readings, videos, personal reflections and multimedia presentations.

Commuter and overnight, residential options are available for those who are interested. Please see “Registration Information” for details.

Individuals who finish the program receive a certificate of completion during a commissioning service and celebratory luncheon.

History

The ELM Summer Workshop was created in 2007 by the Office of Mission and Identity with members of the Mission & Heritage Council to respond to the desire for more “local” Mission formation or “professional development for mission” programs for faculty and staff at Â鶹ԭ´´ and for employees of Lasallian ministries in the Midwest District. Since its inception, over 450 individuals have completed the program.
