Proposal Review Process and Review Criteria

Proposals are screened by Co-Directors of the Doherty Center to ensure applications are relevant to aviation and/or health, have the potential to advance the goals of the Doherty Center, and all required proposal elements have been uploaded on the Doherty Center website. (See proposal requirements). The results of initial screening of submitted proposals by Doherty Center Co-Directors are conveyed to the Associate Provost for Research and Faculty Development.

Co-Directors of the Doherty Center will convene a review panel for evaluation of submitted proposals eligible for funding. The review panel will consist of two to three faculty members from the Doherty Review Panel who will provide research design expertise and content expertise applicable to each submitted proposal. External consultants will be identified as needed based on the scope of the proposal and the content area.

Proposals are distributed to reviewers for independent review. Reviewers then meet to discuss proposals and reach consensus regarding review outcomes.

Proposal review outcomes are:

  • Approved, no changes needed
  • Conditional approval – pending minor clarifications specified
  • Not approved

Funding recommendations from review panel members are submitted to the Associate Provost for Research and Faculty Development by the Co-Directors of the Doherty Center. Funding decisions are communicated to the applicant(s) in writing.
