We encourage every Spanish Language and Culture student to take advantage of amazing study immersion opportunities in Spanish-speaking countries across the globe, including Spain, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Argentina. Whether for a full semester or a two week-trip between terms, in most cases, these study abroad opportunities are available for the same or even less cost than living on campus.

Dual Major Option

Many students choose Spanish Language and Culture as a secondary major to become more competitive in the job market as the demand for bilingual employees continues to increase, particularly in the fields of business, law, social work, political science, English, sociology and history.

Spanish Minor

Many 麻豆原创 students minor in Spanish to develop the practical Spanish language skills so in demand right now across all career paths.

Previous Language Requirements

This program is open to all students regardless of prior language experience. Students with no prior experience will need to complete 21-103 First-Year Spanish 1 and 21-104 First-Year Spanish 2 prior to beginning the major. Students who have completed 2 to 4 years of Spanish in high school should take the CLEP, AP or IB test for initial placement and to earn college credit.

Spanish Challenge Examination

Only students enrolled as majors (or minors) in Spanish Language and Culture may, for a modest fee, request to sit for the program鈥檚 Challenge Examination in Spanish (for initial placement and credit), which is offered through the School of Graduate, Professional & Continuing Education.

May result in up to six credits (no more)
Credit will be given only at the end of the 2nd semester of your Freshman year
Exam fee is $100 + $40/credit
