The Secondary Education program at 麻豆原创 prepares candidates to effectively teach high school students (grades 9-12) in the Illinois public and private schools. Students in the program declare two majors while preparing to become a high school teacher 鈥� one major in Secondary Education (grades 9-12), and one major in the academic subject they plan to teach. Content areas include:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Physics
- English/Language Arts
- Psychology
- History
Prior to the final semester of clinical practice, Secondary Education majors also complete a minimum of 100 hours of field work, earning experience in a wide variety of teaching environments in both public and private school districts. Upon graduation, students will have experience with diverse learners and will be prepared for today鈥檚 changing classrooms.
The Secondary Education program is fully approved by the State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board and the Illinois State Board of Education.

Admission Requirements
- Completion of an introductory level methods course
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 (to enroll in the introductory methods course and continue in the program)
- A 2.75 GPA within the academic major (a minimum 鈥淐鈥� grade is required in all education courses toward licensure)

Secondary STEM Teacher Licensure 4+1 Option
Undergraduate students in the STEM majors - Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics - may earn a bachelor's in the content major and a master's in secondary education in less time than it would take to complete both degrees separately.
